my philosophy

At the end of the day, I love documenting people. As a nostalgic person, I recognize the importance of moments—the small emotions, the big milestones, and everything in between. This is what I’m passionate about, and I feel incredibly lucky to do this for you.

My job is to capture it all—effortlessly and honestly. My goal is to create images that blend timeless elegance with a sense of nostalgia. You focus on being present, and I’ll take care of the rest. I know the weight that photographs can carry—from my own wedding to capturing those who are no longer with us I understand the power images have, they are physical memories, treasures that I hold dear, and that’s exactly what I want to create for you.

I’m inspired by film—how it connects us, reminds us, and moves us. Whether it’s your engagement, wedding, or family story, I strive to document an enduring sense of connection—one that lasts far beyond a single day. These images aren’t just photographs; they’re living memories, deeply rooted in emotion, relationships, and the quiet details that make your story uniquely yours.

Like a favorite song or a beloved film, they’ll take you back—again and again.

You got this. And I got you.

A little about me

Matty Joel Chatburn

I started my photography career shooting weddings back in Newcastle, Australia in 2011 and in NYC 2014.

For over the last decade, I’ve worked in the fashion and editorial world, blending my love for cinema and nostalgia to craft compelling storytelling. I’ve collaborated with brands like Buck Mason and Huckberry and photographed notable figures such as Lamorne Morris (New Girl) and Matt Czuchry (Gilmore Girls). These experiences have refined my ability to capture authentic emotions and fleeting moments, even within a carefully crafted scene.

In 2021, I merged my editorial expertise with wedding photography full-time, bringing a timeless, natural, cinematic approach to documenting real people and their unique stories.

The natural beauty of my Australian coastal upbringing and the everyday magic of family life deeply influences my work. As a husband and father, I know firsthand that the most meaningful moments are often the unscripted ones—especially when kids are involved.

I love coffee, vintage aesthetics, and the beach—three things that shape my creative perspective.

Clients

I grew up on the coastal beaches of Australia, surrounded by nature and the crazy things kids did back in the day.

My Family

My family is my world and my muse. I don’t think I would be the photographer today without them, they have helped hone my skills with a documenting eye, patience, and going with the rhythm of the kids. (Side note, the crazier the kids are the better the photos, because that’s when their personalities really come out.)
